This may be my most favorite session I’ve ever photographed. I flew to Kauai – the Garden Isle in Hawaii, and was able to witness the most beautiful sunrise with this incredible couple for their maternity session. This couple recently moved to Kauai to slow life down a bit as they left the tech world in San Francisco behind, and in doing so have found their new purpose in each other and in life as they prepared to welcome their first baby in paradise.
In the middle of the ocean Kauai sits in the Pacific and is a true gem of a place – with lush green mountains jutting out of the bright aqua water, and tropical flowers and trees are everywhere. It’s called the island of love, and for good reason. Dolphins jump in the waves, sea turtles swim around everywhere, and the rainbows are like out of a dream. Even though these two were here to witness the amazing rainbows one after another, they admit it was like out of a dream looking back. Towards the end of the session I had to laugh because while in the beginning we were running and photographing each rainbow we saw, there had been so many that towards the end we were just like ‘oh yep another rainbow, oh well’. This couple laughed and said that they promised each other when they moved to Hawaii that they would never become complacent over the beauty and awe that this island shows – but it’s so hard when beauty is so regular and constant over there.
I have loved traveling to new spots all over the world this year photographing amazing people celebrating life’s happiest milestones and events. This year alone I’ve been to Hawaii, Boston, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and Florida. It’s been amazing to travel and photograph newborns, maternity and family sessions along the way.
What a gorgeous spot to celebrate a new life together, and a beautiful place to photograph a maternity session like this. Enjoy these sneak peeks of this amazing couple and best of luck as they welcome their new baby!!
