Siena just turned 1 – this year went by so quickly and yet I tried to take time each month to really reflect on how she was developing and changing, and what she brought to the world and to us. It wasnt all a blur, just a tiny bit of one. I like to think that the first birthday party is every bit a celebration in the parents as it is the child. The fact we’re standing here showered and with food on the table and a clean house is something to celebrate, with cake.
Every morning when I get her out of bed I sing to her “You are my Sunshine”. When it came time to planning her first birthday party, I knew I wanted to incorporate our little song, and it ended up being so cute.
I started with varied yellow tissue poms, as well as print outs of each month’s photo from the past year, mounted on yellow and grey cardstock and hung with pale pink ribbons. I couldnt help myself and grabbed some daffodils for the table.
I loved this little personalized poster to highlight her favorite things at this stage, from Moulage Collection. Next to it I displayed a hand painted canvas I did for her.
Here is her little personalized birthday party hat from Sandy’s Specialty Shop:
And then of course we had cake! The pastries were done by Capitol Sweets and the smash cake was a little sun with cute clouds and roses (her middle name is Rose) and a number 1. The main cake was vanilla with lemon filling, and a hybrid of American and Italian buttercream frosting.
The cookie favors again from Capitol Sweets were little suns with a little 1. So cute. The sticker on the back mimicked the design I had on the invitations, because at times like these I allow my inner OCD out.
And the birthday girl and me!
(this is her checking out my necklace which has her birthstone of aquamarine)
Finally her last month photo was taken and here is the year in review. Crazy how fast a year changes a baby’s life. Happiest 1st birthday to our little sunshine!
