Photographing extended families is such a unique and fun experience I get to enjoy as a family photographer. Being near Washington DC, I seem to get some families here on their vacations, others who just happen to live here and have relatives coming in for the holidays. Either way I love getting to see big families come together in a unique celebration being themselves and having fun. While the amount of people involved adds a different dynamic to a family session, extended family photos are normally SO MUCH FUN. Most of the people havnt seen eachother in a bit, so everyone is normally laughing and joking around – they’re rarely a formal event and are much more joyful and happy than one might think.
This extended family here is a perfect example of this! They were from all over the world, coming together for a holiday weekend and were just amazingly fun. They hardly stopped laughing together, were joyful and laid back, and made photographing (even in super cold and windy conditions) a total party. This family is truly one of the best – so kind and lovely, beautiful and sweet and funny too. The babies were all bundled up to keep warm, and had the sweetest faces. The oldest grandchild was giggling and playing with all her aunts and uncles, and especially loved being with grandma and grandad. We even got to include their awesome dog! I loved being able to photograph everyone around their beautiful home in the Washington DC metro area, as we kept the kids comfortable and happy, but were able to showcase another part of this amazing family.
