I have been photographing newborns since 2008 when I began my career as a professional photographer, and have loved meeting each and every baby. There is something truly special about welcoming a new baby into the world, and celebrating all of the treasures that newness brings to our lives. From tiny fingers and toes, to long newborn lashes and fluffy baby hair, all their little details and expressions – especially the sleepy yawns and newborn smiles – are details we want to remember. Each time I photograph a new baby, and I peek over the side of the car seat to meet their precious face, I am overwhelmed by the amazingness of their new life.
Customizing each session to fit the family and baby is especially important. I love to make sure the colors we use, blankets and textures incorporated, hats or headbands and wraps utilized, are specialized to each family and baby. I take care to coordinate with decor used in the nursery, or favorite colors of the parents, as well as rotating in fresh handmade accessories/props procured from my favorite vendors. Whether you prefer a session filled with pops of color, or love a natural and organic neutral color scheme, (or a mix of both!) I make sure your newborn session is the session of your dreams.
Studio Newborn Session
Most of my newborn sessions are held in my natural light studio in Frederick, Maryland – so that we have access to my whole collection of props, hats, headbands, wraps, backdrops, flooring and accessories. I play light white noise and have it warmed comfortably to make your baby extra comfortable during posing. I prioritize newborn safety, and all poses are done only with your baby’s well being in mind. Newborn sessions take about 2 hours, and I welcome bringing snacks and light reading to the session so you can enjoy some relaxing time while I photograph your new baby. While your baby will be the focus of the session, I highly recommend the parents join in for parent/baby and family images together, as well as if you have an older sibling I love to include them in some too! Child-friendly Baker Park is a 2 block walk away for some older sibling playtime for after they’re finished. I recommend parents wear neutral tops – black or white or cream are all good choices – but you can always add in a beautiful color if you like! The focus on the images is your new baby and the connection you all now share, so distracting prints and loud graphics are not recommended. I also offer a studio wardrobe filled with neutral beautiful dresses for mom to wear if she prefers. Hair and makeup artists are available in the studio building if those services are requested (advanced reservations required). Lifestyle Newborn Session
I do also offer in home lifestyle newborn sessions when a family prefers to have me come to them, or when they live outside of the DC metro area(travel fees may apply). These sessions are less posed, and include beautiful areas of your home, such as the new nursery, a pretty window, interesting architectural elements, and even your own backyard. These sessions can be wonderful ways to include pets or your favorite spot in your home, and have a modern lifestyle feel. My newborn lifestyle sessions can still include a few posed individual newborn images, as I bring a few items to naturally pose baby on their own, but are less posed than a studio newborn session. Newborns are typically photographed within the first 2 weeks of life, so it’s important to contact me earlier in pregnancy to ensure we can book your date!
