I have been photographing this amazing United States military family for several years, and I’ve loved watching them grow from a family of 3 into a family of 5 over the years of knowing them. This amazing mom is retiring from her years of military service after 20 years, and we wanted to do something really special for this year’s photo session. We decided what better location than downtown Washington DC on the Lincoln Memorial and DC reflecting pool facing the Washington Monument. We met up at sunrise on a beautiful fall day, and started down by the reflecting pool to capture the sun rising over the Washington Monument, and then headed up to the Lincoln Memorial for some classic Washington DC family photos. I love the backdrop of these historic DC monuments next to the playful and joyous kids and family together.
The columns on the Lincoln Memorial create these deep pockets of shadows and light, which were perfect hallways for these kids to run and laugh, while creating these special memories with their mom and dad. This amazing mama changed into her military uniform for the last part of our photo session, to document this military retirement in her life. The kids loved seeing her in such a special uniform, and I can’t think of a better backdrop for these special photos than these historic monuments. I loved seeing this special family for this momentous occasion and am so excited to share some of my favorite images from their incredible sunrise over the DC monuments.
