This amazing downtown Frederick Maryland session involved an awesome family I have known for many years. Their teenage kids are at such a great age to photograph, since they’re so vibrant and energetic, and are up for any portrait ideas I have. When we discussed what kind of session to do, my mind instantly went to downtown Frederick. This family is Frederick through and through, and the downtown Frederick vintage bricks and old iron gates made for a perfect backdrop for them. I love how the color on the fall leaves were still in peak form, and we had a nice sunny evening together for this fall session. This session was right at the end of fall so I did a big scouting trip that week to make sure I could find all the pretty foliage, since some winds had blown down most of the leaves around town by late Fall, but we were so lucky to find this gorgeous area in downtown Frederick.
I love that this mom was totally open to ideas for their outfits, and location, and all my ideas. She said she hadn’t had photos done in such a long time that she was open to whatever I had in mind. For their age children I wanted something fun, casual, and authentic to their personalities. I had them tie together their outfits with layered pieces like vests and textured sweaters, which made for the perfect look together. I always suggest to be coordinated but not matching, and I am so glad this awesome family took my advice for this because their outfits were totally on point! These guys were such a joy to photograph and I love that we documented this joyous time in their lives.
